IPcam: Best 4K (8MP) IP camera of 2018 (Demo footage!)

A few years back, I made a whole series about awesome 5MP IP Cameras. Over the years they have grown old and it was time to replace them. Technology has not stood still so I started a search for the best 4K (8MP) IP Camera. After testing a lot of no-name and name brands, my choice has fallen on Dahua cameras, check out this post to read about them and watch my video including lots of demo footage! Building a 2U AMD Ryzen server (Proxmox GPU Passthrough / OBS or Xsplit in VM)

As I mentioned previously, one of the reasons for this server is to use it as a live streaming server for some of the IP cameras we use on our LAN parties. Since we now have 8MP/4K IP cameras I also wanted to stream in 4K, preferably in 60FPS to make scrolling text look all beautiful and crisp.

Silencing the 2U AMD Ryzen server (Noctua PWM mod)

As I mentioned in my previous post about this subject, I recently built an AMD Ryzen 1700x based 2U server. Because next to running at LAN parties this server also needs to run at my home I wanted to have it somewhat quiet so I can run it in the garage without hearing it somewhere else like on my YouTube recordings

Building a 2U AMD Ryzen server (Hardware configuration + ZFS settings)

I recently had the need to build a 2U Server for home and LAN party usage. Since AMD Ryzen is now offering a very interesting 8 core CPU with plenty of PCIe lanes I decided to use a Ryzen 1700x. The server is running Proxmox and is even using GPU passthrough! This post will host the first video and some configuration details that are harder to convey in a video. A second video and post with more information about some hardware and the GPU passthrough will go up after this.

Panasonic G7 25FPS to 30FPS

As you probably where able to see in the previous video I decided to replace my 6 year old Sony Nex-5 with a Panasonic G7. I remember thinking 6 years ago that it was sad they where still bringing out PAL (25FPS) and NTSC (30FPS) models of the same camera without allowing you to change it. Guess what, this new Panasonic is locked too! Horrible!

I found a away to change that though! Continue reading Panasonic G7 25FPS to 30FPS

New Firmware Version 2.5.1.8 for DM365/DM368 DSP IP Camera

A while back a new firmware (2.5.1.8) appeared for the Ti DaVinci DM365 and DM368 camera’s. Only recently a kind comment-er was able to find a link where to download this firmware.

Sadly, as always, there is no changelog. After testing it at least fixes 2 issues I was having with the previous versions have been fixed and who knows what else has improved! Since I’ve been running it without issues the last 2 weeks, it’s time to share it with everyone!

You can find the previous post about the firmware here, I suggest we do new replies about this firmware (and newer) in this topic.

!! A word of warning, if you are on ebay or aliexpress do not trust sellers with “Novate” in the name such as “Novate Intelligence System Company Limited” and “Novate Security World”. They are scammers and while they sell you the camera, if you have problems, they don’t respond anymore and let the shop die to open a new one with a slightly different name! New Ti DM365/DM368 5Mpix Camera’s

I ordered a lot of camera’s this time because I was able to combine some orders and have decided that these camera’s are worth the investment for my events. I will detail the new camera’s so you know what to expect when you buy them!

PL-PSE3008-A2 “dumb” POE switch

Over the last few years I’ve been gathering more and more equipment which supports Power over Ethernet such a access-points and the IP camera’s I’ve written about before.

I need something to power those POE devices! Most managable POE switches are quite expensive so I’ve been looking around for cheaper options and decided to order a “dumb” POE+ switch from China to test!

New TimeLapse Method for TI DaVinci DM368/DM365 DSP based cameras

After creating a timelapse method using FFmpeg and after that using VLC a new method was discovered by one of my commentators. He dissected the firmware files and found that you can access an URL which then gives you a picture. This of course is the ideal way of generating pictures with a set time interval and I’ll walk you through the process in this post.
